Parent of Reuben, Class of 2028

How has being part of the Bridgeland Band impacted your child’s personal growth?

He has had a great experience in his first two years in the Bridgeland Band. Marching season taught him to be accountable for his own performance as well as participating as a team player to create the overall marching show.

His physical and mental resilience improved with the long hours of practice, football games, and competition days, but he loved every minute. As a section leader, he learned how to encourage his section, as well as help those who required assistance in any way.

What would you say to a business considering supporting the band financially?

Investing in the Bridgeland Band would help contribute to building future team players with great discipline, resilience, and leadership skills and the will to exceed in all areas of life.

What changes have you seen in your child since joining the band?

He has always been a team player, but marching band has truly enhanced that. The long hours of practice do take their toll, but the band members all pull together and encourage each other to keep going even at the hardest of rehearsals. They boost each other up and support each other in all areas from the music, to learning their dots (their location on the field), and representing the school.

What qualities has your child developed through band participation?

Being a section leader for the first time last year was a learning experience for him. But working through the issues and accepting help and advice from senior leaders helped to improve his leadership skills and knowledge.

What makes the Bridgeland Band program stand out compared to other activities?

The Bridgeland Band culture and leadership of the band directors is outstanding. The directors expect a lot from the students in their rehearsals and performances and the way they teach and encourage the students to get the best out of them is exceptional. The students respect and work hard for their directors because they want to do their very best for them.

What has made you most proud as a band parent?

Seeing my son thrive in band and watching him being so proud when he performs, especially during marching season. It makes all the hard work and long hours worth it to see the amazing shows they produce. He loves everything band related. He's grown a lot as a person through band and made some great friendships which I hope will last well after high school band is over.
