How has being in the Bridgeland High School Band changed you as a person?
It’s taught me to be less afraid of what others think. I’ve found more of what makes me myself and have expressed that more, which has caused my friendships in band to feel more genuine and close.
How has band helped prepare you for life after high school?
Honestly, band teaches you a lot of things: always be prepared, help whenever and wherever you can, don’t forget to bring a pencil to everything… but the main thing it’s helped me with is how to be a better person. Numerous role models have been presented to me throughout even my one season here, and it’s changed me in a positive way that I feel will do better in life.
How has band helped you build friendships or a sense of belonging?
Some of my best friends have come from band. You find people who share similar interests, and since you’re forced to march, play, and sweat next to them, you inevitably grow close. Don’t fight it, let it happen, and something magical might just come of it.
Why do you believe programs like this deserve financial support from the community and businesses?
Besides just playing cool music and winning trophies, I know for a lot of people, band is a reason they wake up every day. Giving money to the band allows for this activity to continue to support everyone in it and around it, which benefits the community as a whole and may just come back around to the donor. Karma, y’know?
This activity has taught me how to work hard, play hard, and live hard (if that makes sense). You only get one chance at this crazy game called life, and this program has taught me to take that chance and ride it to the moon.
If you believe in magic, if you believe that we have a say in where we end our lives, if you believe that we (both you AND the band kids) have the power to make a difference, then I strongly recommend donating. You get to be happy with yourself knowing that your money is being used to help kids find themselves. Thank you for considering, from the whole Bridgeland Band, and we hope to see you at our next show!
